When it goes beyond the threshold it will trigger an alert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit AWS CloudWatch console<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Create Alarms<\/strong> \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Data Source: Metrics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type: Classic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <strong>Select Metric<\/strong>: Choose <code>Browse<\/code> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate:<code>EC2 &gt; Per-Instance Metrics &gt; CPUUtilization<\/code> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select our instance from the list by using the filter <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Select Metric<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1060\" height=\"673\" Simulate the CPU Utilization Spike<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To do this, we&#8217;ll trigger the CPU load on the EC2 instance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SSH into the EC2 instance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>ssh -i your-key.pem ec2-user@your-instance-public-ip<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Install the stress tool with below command<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>sudo yum install -y stress<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Run the stress test command below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>sudo stress --cpu 2 --timeout 300<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>This command will make 2 CPU cores on EC2 busy for 5 minutes as seen below on the terminal<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" observe system issues in real time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the next part we will integrate Lambda functions which can be triggered via Slack to simply restart the service or fetch certain
